From the preface of the authors to the polygraphic edition of the French-Russian edition of the medical-biological dictionary: "The sources for compiling the French-Russian medical and biological dictionary were the existing new dictionaries (Larousse Universel, Alfred Gordon, French-English Medical Dictionary, Terminology "Prof. M.Ya. Breitman, etc.), and in particular the journal literature and the latest manuals for all medical specialties. The compilation of a true French-Russian dictionary required a very large expenditure of labor and time from us, and we ask readers to be lenient towards possible gaps. All the instructions that will be made to us about the defects of the dictionary will be accepted with gratitude and used in the next edition. "

Dictionary structure and instructions for use:

The dictionary is made in a strictly alphabetical order, which is applied not only to individual words, but also to complex expressions. However, a violation of the strict alphabetical order is allowed to preserve the integrity of the impression in those cases where complex expressions consisting of a noun and an adjective are interrupted with respect to the alphabet in other words. (For example, we write cils, cils vibratiles, cilement, fleurs, fleurs blanches, fleuraison). Complex expressions consisting of two words are placed under the word, which, when used normally, is the first. (For example, petit mal should be looked for under petit, and ligne blanche under ligne). However, for ease of reference, the second word is in most cases referenced to the first. The names of muscles that are often used by Frenchmen without the word "muscle" should be looked for not only under the word muscle, but under the corresponding adjective. Nouns are supplied with generic designations with the help of letters m and g (male and female); In those cases when a given word is used in the plural, this is indicated by the letters mn. If the noun is repeated several times in combination with various adjectives, then it is accompanied only by the indication of the genus for the first time, and the word or expression itself is replaced by the dash (-) sign. After each word in parentheses, the abbreviated form of the scientific and medical discipline, to which the given word refers, is followed. These abbreviations are interpreted according to the index of abbreviated notations of disciplines (see below). Words of a general nature, as well as those that belong to different disciplines, are devoid of such a designation. Where we give besides interpreting also the interpretation of the meaning of the term, this interpretation is in brackets. With little Russian terms, we give Latin notation in parentheses. Chemical terms for facilitating references are provided with Latin names and empirical formulas.
