Native POP3 Connector

The Native POP3 Connector program allows Microsoft Exchange Server to receive mail from a POP3 server and deliver it to the recipient's mailboxes.

The new version of the popular Native POP3 Connector (NPC) product is an extension for Microsoft® Exchange Server 2000/2003 and Microsoft® Small Business Server 2000/2003. In terms of these products, it is a connector or a one-way mail gateway.

The main advantages of the program:

• Integration
  - Full integration in Exchange System Manager with support for distributed administration.
  - Full integration with Active Directory.
  The entire NPC configuration is stored in your organization's Active Directory structure in the Connectors group of the Microsoft Exchange Server tree. Access to it can be done by any of the standard tools of working with Active Directory (including ADSI Edit Tool from Support Tools Windows 2000/2003 Server).
  - Support for any Exchange Server recipients.
  NPC will deliver your POP3 mail to any recipients, whether it be a user, a user group or a shared folder. Moreover, with the help of NPC you can organize mailing lists for your organization: simply add a group of additional recipients to the settings of the mailbox.
  
• Scalability
  - Ability to add multiple connectors to one route group.
  - Multiuser (global) mailboxes (additional features of server licenses).
  - Support for a large number of mailboxes.
  NPC supports up to 65 thousand mailboxes for each installed instance, satisfying any needs of your organization in remote POP3 mail.
  - Multithreaded processing.
  Multiple mailboxes can be processed simultaneously, which allows users to receive mail in a timely manner, without waiting for the rest of the mailboxes to be processed.
  
• Audit
  - A convenient audit system using standard Windows Server tools.
  All critical events that occur during the operation of the NPC are reflected in the Windows event log.
  - Customizable system for registering POP3 protocol events.
  Monitor the protocol with the level of detail that you need.
  - All mail under your control
  NPC stores all received mail in the specified folder before delivery to the addressees. Moreover, all mail is stored in standard EML files. This is the reason.
  
• Customization
  - Support for Secure Socket Layer (SSL) connections.
  If your organization's security policies require you to receive mail using SSL, NPC will provide you with this capability: any of the mailboxes can be configured to work with this protocol.
  - Flexible mailbox processing scheduler.
  Assign processing of each box as you need: at certain times, days of the week and at any time intervals. Unlike the standard Microsoft connector in Small Business Server, NPC allows you to use intervals substantially less than 15 minutes.
  - Automatic and manual modes for determining the recipients of messages.
  Regardless of whether your organization uses multi-user (global) or single-user mailboxes, the NPC will process any of them. Assign one or more recipients to the box. In addition to the standard (To, CC), define your own email headers to search for recipients. All this is possible in the NPC.
  - A set of advanced settings for highly optimized procedure for receiving messages.
  NPC provides you with the means to fine tune the process of receiving messages.
  - Managing the sender's address.
  Using NPC, to deliver to the virtual SMTP server of Exchange you can use the sender's address received from the letter (From header) or the address of the administrator specified in the NPC. This avoids problems with the built-in Sender addresses filter in Exchange Server 2003 or vice versa, it can be used at full power.
  
  System requirements
  
  - Microsoft® Windows® Server 2000/2003 or Microsoft Small Business Server 2000/2003;
  - Microsoft Exchange Server 2000/2003;
  - Domain administrator rights and Active Directory schema for installation;
  - Domain administrator rights for configuration.
  
  Note: Please keep in mind that the current version of Native POP3 Connector does not support Microsoft Exchange Server cluster configurations, but this support will be added in the next version of the program.
