Fatso - Assiral: The Fight of the Hackers

The new worm, Fatso.A, is being distributed via the MSN Messenger instant messenger with the insults messages by Assiral.A, a virus written to disable bropia.

Fatso.A (also known as Crog and Sumom) sends out messages containing links that if the MSN Messenger user clicks on will cause the PC to download the virus. This worm also spreads as a file on the eMule peer-to-peer system. Fatso.A carries the message of a hacker claiming to be "Sky Devil", which uses obscene language to criticize the writers of the attack against Bropia, a recent Internet worm. Fatso.A has the potential to send victims to certain websites pretending to be anti-virus software companies. It also disables security applications on the target computer.

The Assiral.A virus is designed to remove Bropia and their variants from infected PCs. This virus appears in e-mail attachments in Outlook, disguised as love letters. When activated, it will find and destroy Bropia but also release other attack codes into the computer, including a program that displays a message calling for "protecting the world from the Bropia."

The two viruses Bropia and Assiral.A have low levels of dispersion. However, Fatso.A is spreading rapidly in the US and Korea. The viral writers' battle seems to be a repetition of previous antisocial battles between the writers of Mydoom, Bagle and NetSky.
