Security company Sophos has announced the rankings of the 10 most dangerous viruses in February 2005. Zafi-D is at the top of the charts, accounting for 30.8%. At the same time, two new virus variants have entered the top 10: Bagle-BK and Sober-K.

Sophos also analyzed in February that a total of 1,295 new variants of the virus were detected, bringing the total number of virus variants to 100,898. Like most worms that are capable of spreading e-mail, Zafi.D will change the configuration settings of Windows-based computers, which can disable security software and collect E-mail addresses in infected computers. After collecting the e-mail addresses on the computer, Zafi.D will use a simple mail transfer protocol (SMTP) to send copies of itself to the collected e-mail addresses.
