New Virus Attack on Businesses

This destructive program can spread very quickly on the Internet when offices around the world begin a new week of work.

The virus, called Evaman, was discovered yesterday, is a mass-mailing e-mail worm. It is designed to infect mail servers, severely slowing down computer paths and causing financial losses due to reduced productivity.

The new virus came just days after online security companies discovered a Trojan horse designed to gather electronic bank account information. Evaman has a lot in common with the Mydoom worm, a program that destroyed hundreds of millions of dollars in business in January. Like Mydoom, Evaman uses a fake e-mail address to create new messages with attachments bearing the virus. Opening this attachment will help the code break into the system and here, it will automatically generate dozens of new messages.

Tim Hartman, technical director of Symantec's antivirus software, warns that Evaman is a virus that is as dangerous as Mydoom. The expert said that Evaman-themed letters often had topics related to a failed transaction or an error message when sending a message.
