BodyPaint 3D includes a huge collection of popular image editing and texturing tools. There are brushes, selection tools, filters, "erasers" and much more. The module can even use .abr brushes from Photoshop. Full tablet support will allow you to draw as naturally as in popular image editors. And, of course, BodyPaint 3D can work with graphics files up to 16k in size and supports 16- and 32-bit color depths.
Compared to 2D drawing, perhaps the most impressive feature of BodyPaint 3D is projective drawing, eliminating the need to spend hours creating perfect UV maps. You simply draw what you would like to see on a 3D model, apply a projection, and BodyPaint 3D instantly adjusts your drawing so that it fits perfectly with the UV coordinates-even if UV coordinates diverge and there are seams in some places. - Color profiles
BodyPaint 3D now fully supports color profiles. It does not matter if you import an existing image to process the texture or create a new one, BodyPaint 3D gives you the ability to set a color profile for textures with a color depth of 8, 16 and 32 bits per channel. Built-in color profiles can be saved, changed or converted, if necessary. Color profiles can also be used in the viewport. If your monitor is calibrated, this is taken into account. You can create textures with maximum color accuracy.
- Occlusion of environment
When texturing a 3D object, it is very important to focus on the plasticity of the surface to create a realistic illusion of the structure. Sometimes lighting can not provide enough detail and therefore contact shadows are needed to create convincing images.
Occlusion of the environment calculates contact shadows based on the geometry of objects. The closer the adjacent surface, the darker will be the shadow. BodyPaint 3D R12 can now automatically create an occlusal texture of the environment to highlight the structure of the model. In particular, this saves a lot of time when working with detailed objects, while working extremely accurately.
- Compatible with RenderMan
BodyPaint 3D provides a unique ability to render a 3D model with the assigned textures that you are currently creating. This workflow alone will save a lot of time, as now there is no need for cumbersome saving and loading of textures into image processing programs and 3D graphics. Now BodyPaint 3D has become even more versatile, with CineMan.
For all those who use BodyPaint 3D in an environment compatible with RenderMan, preliminary rendering can now be done, thanks to CineMan, in RenderMan itself without using its own BodyPaint 3D engine. Since even light sources and RenderMan shaders are supported, even higher accuracy can be achieved.
