Detecting Trojans / DSNX-05 Disaster Through Email

Sophos security firm Sophos says an email campaign designed to trick users into visiting Microsoft's counterfeit website and installing the Trojan virus on the victim's computer is spreading rapidly across the network.

According to Sophos, the attacker sent fake e-mails as an updated version of Microsoft's Windows operating system. When the user clicks on the email, he or she will be directed to a site that updates Microsoft's fake security features and persuades people to download "fake" patches.

When the user loads the pieces, the computer becomes infected with the Troj / DSNX-05 virus, allowing an attacker to control the victim's computer.

Sophos's technology consultant says that Microsoft never provides updates or bug fixes via email. If the customer wants to see the actual update, visit the company's website.
