ADSL connection overview

ADSL connection overview

ADSL is a high-speed connection to the Internet, which can be up to several hundred times faster than the dial-up modem we currently use. Connectivity technology promises us to be able to "surf" on the Internet and enjoy many services not for connecting "turtles".

Basic of ADSL technology

& nbsp;

ADSL is a member of the high speed modem connection technology family , which stands for Digital Subscriber Line. DSL utilizes copper-based telephone cabling to transmit data at high speeds, saving on expensive fiber-optic installation. All forms of DSL are based on the fact that audio transmission over copper telephone lines accounts for only a fraction of the bandwidth. DSL splits the bandwidth of the telephone cable into two: a small portion of the transmission, mostly for data transmission at high speeds.

& nbsp;

On the telephone line, it is actually only a very small frequency range from 0KHz to 20KHz to transmit audio data (telephone). DSL technology utilizes this feature to transmit data on the same line, but at a frequency of 25,875 KHz to 1,104 MHz

ADSL and Internet over broadband

& nbsp;

ADSL is one of the popular Internet connections that provide high bandwidth for data transmission (called broadband internet). Broadband Internet versus dial-up modem connectivity is a great revolution in speed, quality and content, as well as comparing the Nvidia GeForce 4 TI4600 with the S3 Trio 1MB PCI. With a speedy connection to hundreds of dialup modems, ADSL - an application of broadband Internet - will enable you to truly enjoy the digital world on the Internet.

& nbsp;

A. For users

& nbsp;

Basically, ADSL will help you do familiar things on the Internet such as emailing, browsing websites, browsing forums, downloading files etc. but much faster than before and you can do the same thing. instead of having to do one by one as before. You can enjoy the Internet without long waiting for the modem to dial the operator or read the book waiting for the site to finish loading in the browser. It is worth noting that you do not have to pay for ADSL calls, and the line is still available for browsing while browsing the Internet, although the technology is based on the telephone line available.

& nbsp;

In addition to speeding up the popular Internet needs above, ADSL also helps you use the Internet for the tasks that dial up before the modem still crying waving flag white surrender.

& nbsp;

Firstly, you can access high quality website design, flash, background music, animations ...

& nbsp;

Secondly, you can listen to and watch songs, newsletters, movie trailers ... from all over the world.

& nbsp;

- Third is the on-demand movie (English called movie-on-demand), with broadband and advanced compression and transmission technology, advanced audio, movies can be transmitted over the Internet and you have full Program selection, pause or rewind as you like. Currently, Singapore Internet service provider SingNet is offering this service for about $ 6.5 / mo (the promotional price for the first 12 months is $ 2.5) via 512kbps ADSL.

& nbsp;

Fourth is video conferencing: combined with webcam, ADSL will help you talk with friends, relatives or business partners over the Internet with high quality audio and video.

& nbsp;

- Thursday is the multiplayer game on the Internet with friends around the world. With very low ping times, ADSL allows for smooth network gaming, making gaming over the Internet faster and more enjoyable.

& nbsp;

Friday is online. You can attend distance courses organized by world-renowned universities or access electronic libraries online faster.

& nbsp;

B. For businesses

& nbsp;

E-commerce and the information industry are the future foundations of every economy. ADSL in particular and internet broadband in general makes e-commerce possible. Online stores can be designed with greater interactivity, making the product presentation more attractive to users. This type of store is easy to design, easy to maintain, and at a fraction of the cost, combined with direct user interaction will help small businesses compete with larger facilities on a global scale.

& nbsp;

Vietnam's software industry will be more competitive with broadband internet. Developing, exploring and penetrating the market as well as taking orders and delivering products will be easier and more economical.

Conditions for installing ADSL

& nbsp;

The basic condition is that you have to have a phone line (!). More details, the phone line must meet the following requirements:

& nbsp;

The switchboard is less than 5500 m. The closer to the switchboard, the faster your access speed. Of course if the service provider limits the speed, then even then you only reach the maximum speed limit.

Not subject to the use of pair gain technology. Pair gain is the digital technology that separates the telephone cable into two (here consider the pair gain 1 + 1). This technology is used by telephone service providers to reduce costs in case your home requires additional phone lines. The downside is that the dial-up Internet connection will be halved (28.8Kbps maximum), not the RIM (Remoted Integrated Multiplexer) technology, based on fiber-optic cable. The telephone service provider directs the fiber to an area and then transmits the fiber optic signal as a normal telephone service. RIM is very economical to install the telephone in places where no copper telephone network is available. such as newly built suburbs, remote areas or islands.

& nbsp;

If your phone line can support ADSL, just contact your service provider and they will take care of connecting you to the switchboard. But for the installation at home, you have to do it yourself, if the service is very expensive. Even procurement of equipment can be self-sufficient, as suppliers can sell very expensive. Self-sufficient shopping and installation equipment will save you a lot and more you own equipment, can be transferred to other service providers easier (hope Vietnam will have more providers Internet service in the future). You do not have to worry about installing a dial-up modem. However, before purchasing a device, you should check with the vendor whether the device is supported by them.

& nbsp;

Just like dial-up connections, you need a modem that mediates between the computer and the phone line to switch between the signal and the data. There are three types of ADSL modems.

& nbsp;

Modem on PCI card: This type integrates all on one PCI card. Cheapest of the three, but very difficult to install, selective operating system and does not support the connection to multiple computers. If you are considering adding Linux or Mac OS X, or sharing your ADSL connection with other machines, or if you are an overclocker, stay away from them.

& nbsp;

USB Modem: This is an external modem connected via USB 1.1 interface. The price is just a bit higher and looks easy to install. But this kind of operating system is also less than the other type, installation is relatively difficult and does not support connection sharing. In addition, the speed of USB 1.1 is very low (maximum 12Mbps but actually much lower), not suitable for high speed ADSL, more use of system resources. You should consider carefully before choosing USB for ADSL.

& nbsp;

Ethernet external modem: This is the most common type. It uses ethernet interface with computer via 10/100 network card. The advantage is very easy to install, supports most operating systems, easy to share the connection. The disadvantage is that the price is higher than other types (including the price of the network card). Ethernet ADSL modems come with a built-in feature such as a built-in hardware firewall or router and hub or switch (which makes it easy to share your connection with other machines).

& nbsp;

If you want to use other devices such as telephones or faxes on the line that ADSL uses, you need a filter to filter the signal. Its price is very cheap and usually comes with a modem if you buy from a service provider.

& nbsp;

Currently, ADSL service is being deployed and expanded by VDC, the largest provider of Internet access in Vietnam.
