Target disk mode allows you to share files between two Mac computers with FireWire, Thunderbolt 2, USB-C, or Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) ports. This feature is extremely useful when you need to transfer data at fast speed or if you want to display the files that you receive from a non-functioning computer. 1. What is Target Disk Mode? Why use Target Disk Mode?

Target disk mode allows you to share files between two Mac computers with one port FireWire, Thunderbolt 2, USB-C, or Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C). This feature is extremely useful when you need to transfer data at fast speed or if you want to display the files that you receive from a non-functioning computer. To begin the process, first connect your 2 PCs with FireWire, Thunderbolt, or USB cable that supports high speed data transfer. Then follow the steps below:
  1. If your computer has not enabled Target Disk Mode, press the key to open up and you can skip to step 4. If not click select Apple menu (Apple icon) then select System Preferences
  2. Click Select Startup Disk Then select Target Disk Mode

  4. After your computer boots in Target Disk Mode, it will display the drive icon on the desktop of another computer. Double click on CD driver to open and browse files on the computer.

  6. Eject the drive by dragging the drive icon to the recycle bin.
  7. To exit the Target Disk Mode, Hold down the Power button On the computer you use as the disk, then disconnect the USB cable.
