An attack program has just started broadcasting via e-mail, tricking the victim into pretending to be a headline newsletter from the American media.

British security firm Sophos named the virus Crowt.A and said it does not have a fixed subject or other characteristic features. Instead, the virus sends out the letters with the title and the content and attachments are taken from the latest news on the website.

When an e-mail recipient opens an attachment containing a virus, Crowt.A will install a program that will allow the remote attacker to exploit the victim's computer. A program that logs keyboard activity will also be installed on the computer and snooping on the user's secret credentials. There have been no reports of this virus infection.

"Hackers are always finding new tricks to trick users into activating the virus. This is the latest case for those who subscribe to the newsletters, "said Carole Theriault, a security specialist with Sophos.
